Maine’s newest high-end luxury hotel, which opened its doors on Tuesday, promises to change the way people see and work in town.
It will open the first of its kind in the state.
The Maine-based Mattress Express, the tallest hotel in the country, will offer a variety of services, including room service, laundry and catering, and will open by late summer, according to a news release.
The company says it will offer more than 100 rooms, including suites, to travelers who sign up for the Mattress Delivery service.
Mattress Express is the only one of its type in the world, and the first to open here in the U.S., said Paul Neely, the company’s president.
The hotel, with its rooftop terrace, will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
It is scheduled to open to the public in July 2018.
Neely said he was excited to get the word out, saying it will help the local economy, especially with the growth of tourism and people looking for a more comfortable setting.
Mattresses have become a popular luxury choice in recent years, with retailers like Tiffany and Louis Vuitton adding luxury options, including private balconies.
But the Mattresses delivery service, which allows travelers to book their rooms online, was a surprise to Neely.
He said it is something new and exciting to see in the Maine area, and a new way to meet people.
Neeley said Mattresses is also a sign of the times.
He noted that the cost of a hotel room is rising and there are more people working in the hotel industry.
Mattressing Express is being built on top of the property at the corner of the intersection of Main and Main streets in Kennebunkport, which is currently the only high-rise hotel in town, Neely said.
The hotel will feature a private rooftop terrade that will be available for guests to park their cars, which are required to park there.
The rooftop terraces are designed to reduce the impact of a rooftop pool that sits just above the hotel, Neeley added.
