A delivery app has been used to deliver Chinese goods to the US since at least 2018.
But the company behind it, China Express Delivery, has been hit by a massive cyber attack that has left it unable to deliver orders.
The company, which is owned by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group, says that the cyber attack was launched on Thursday, May 26th and lasted until May 30th.
The attack involved a malware that was used to target the company’s database and steal customer information, and then was then distributed via email to employees and customers.
According to China Express, the breach has left the company unable to continue its operations, and is currently under investigation by China’s cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab.
“We are in the process of identifying and addressing all of the incidents reported in the report and are working with our Chinese counterparts,” the company wrote in a blog post on Friday.
“This is a challenging time for all of us at China Express and we are committed to our customers and customers of all countries.”
China Express is currently working to restore service to customers affected by the breach, and it has launched a specialised cyber-security training programme.
The news of the breach comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping was forced to apologise to US President Donald Trump for a series of tweets that had labelled him as a “chink” in the relationship between the two nations.
President Xi Jinping said his recent tweets against US President Trump were “unacceptable”, in a statement released on Friday evening.
“I deeply regret and apologise to the American people and their administration for these remarks,” Xi said.
“I want to emphasise that I respect their decision, which was taken at a time when we had an extremely close and cooperative relationship.”
The US has been investigating the attack, which took place on the same day that a similar attack was carried out on Wanda Pictures, a company that is owned and operated by Wanda.
Wanda has denied any involvement in the cyber attacks.
